Why does a moving ship take much longer time to stop than that taken by a car when brakes are applied to both ?

We generally know that the mass of the ship is more than car.
Therefore, the momentum caused is also high. In order to change the momentum of the object, enough force is applied.
When same force or brake is applied on both car and ship at same point of time, more time would be taken by the ship to slow down.

Because the greater the mass greater is it's inertia so a moving ship compared to a moving car is very much so when brakes are applied to both more force will be required by the ship to make it stop
