Why does a mug full of water feel lighter inside the water

because water provides an upthrust force to the mug full of water which makes the mug lighter in the water. this upthrust force is called buoyant force and this is equal to the weight of the water displaced by the mug.

When the mug full of water is inside water, there is buoyant force acting on it in upward direction which reduces its weight. Hence it feels lighter.
