The needle of a compass gets deflected when brought near to a bar magnet because ,The compass already shows the direction of magnetic field around the earth but when a bar magnet is brought near the magnet produces it's own magnetic field lines when interfere with that of earths therefore the compass is not able to show the right direction and gets deflected
