Why does a paper become translucent when oil is applied on it?​

Paper is opaque because there aremineral fillers in between the fibers, which are in a crystalline form. ... But when oil/water falls on it, the paperappears translucent (and not completely transparent) because thereis a lower difference in the index of refraction between the crystals and theoil.
