while you're in the bus your speed is equal to the speed of the bus
but when you get down your speed needs to get to zero if you need to come to rest
but you are already having some speed(the speed you inherited from the moving bus)
hence due that speed you get drifted in a certain direction up to a certain amount of distance before you slow down and come to rest.
So for safety pls get down from a resting bus
