Why does a plant shed its leaves if kept inside a closed room for long? What would be justification?

If the plant is kept in closed room. then due to absence of light, plant is unable to carry out photosynthesis and chlorophyll present in the leaves get destroyed that gives a pale colour to the leaves.  Due to absence of nutrition it will gradually become weak leading to shedding of leaves and ultimately death of the plant.
