Why does a pure inductor and a pure capacitor never consume power?

Average real power across inductor and capacitor is a double frequency sinusoidal component,hence zero real power . Inductor absorb lagging reactive VAR but supplies leading reactive VAR and capacitor absorb leading reactive VaR while supplies lagging reactive VAR.
