Why does a railway track have a particular shape like I ?

It is shaped like capital I because if the lower and upper tracks ( upper and lower lines in a capital I ) are not connected , they will exert more pressure on the ground , as
pressure = force \ area
and area is obviously more when we add a connection between the two tracks
