HELLO MATE,

The density of iron is low than river water. Liquid force an upward direction is called buoyancy. This is measured by Archimedes' Principle.

Hello Pal...

Well....We might be wondering that how come the small piece of iron sinks in water where as a huge ships floats....Well here is the answer to your query..:D

So..it is just depended on volume and density.A iron piece is really compact having really very small or no air gap between its particles which makes its volume less and we know that when volume decreases and density increases. So Due o its Density it sinks in water...

Now....Let's come on ship it has really large air spaces in it which increases its volume and when volume increases density decreases ....So the ship floats.
