Why does a soap bubble show beautiful colours when it is illuminated by white light?

This is because soap bubble acts as a prism when exposed to white light. Thus dispersion takes place and we can see the colours. The colours can be seen distinctly because each colour has different wavelengths and thus bends at different angles
