Stars appears twinkling due to atmospheric refraction.

Star are small in size compared to other celestial objects.When we see light coming to eye from stars, it comes by crossing different layers of atmosphere and stars light changes its path every now and then due to refraction in different layers.

This changing in path appears twinkling to us from far away.
