Why does a thick tumbler crack when melting ice is placed in it?

because glass is a very poor conductor of heat. when melting ice is inside the glass. inner surface of glass shrinks but the outer surface remains same with the environment temp.
for pressure of two surfaces with each other it cracks

Because glass is a bad conductor of heat and if you pour melting ice then the inner layer get contracts more than outer layer. So eventually the inner layer get crack
