The inner surface of small intestine has millions of tiny , finger like projections called Villi. ... The presence of Villi gives the inner walls of small intestine greater surface area which helps in rapid absorption of food. 5. The digested food which is absorbed through small intestine goes into our blood.

Maximum absorption occurs in small intestine due to following reasons (a) digestion is completed in small intestine (b) inner lining of small intestine is provided with will which increases the surface area to ensure better absorption (c) wall of intestine is richly supplied with blood vessels
