Why does acetylene not react with naoh ask iitians?

It is obvious that the acetylene would not react generally with all the strong bases as on reacting with NaOH it would form NaC2H and within water and NaC2H the actylene is weaker and hence the water becomes pKa greater than 14 hence infeasible reaction occurs
