Why does aeroplane fly in the air while gravity pulls it?

-the airplane has forces acting on it due to the forces produced by its engines
-these forces are known as thrust and lift
-the forces opposing the motion of the plane are drag, which pulls it backwards, and gravity pulling it downwards
-if the forces of thrust and lift are higher than drag and gravity, respectively, the plane flies
