Why does alcohol mix with water but kerosene does not mix with water while both having carbon and hydrogen element ?​

Hey mate,

Because water molecules are polar, any liquid that does not have polar molecules such as oil is usually immiscible with water. Alcohol molecules have both polar and non-polar part, which means they are able to form hydrogen bonds with water and therefore mix it. This is the above reason of both alcohol and kerosene are hydrocarbons but water mix with water( miscible) not with kerosene( immiscible ).
