This is because of the strong attractive electrostatic forces holding the oppositely charged ions together and a large number ofionic bonds in the crystal lattice. These require a lot of thermal energy to overcome and hence haveboth high melting andboiling points.

Ionic compound is a compound which is made by the complete transfer of electrons..

Hence the bond formed here is stronger..

Stronger the bond harder is to break the bond and so they have high melting as well as boiling point..
