Why does alternating current induce a magnetic field?

Transformers don't work on DC, they need AC! The term induced, applies to a changing fields. A changingmagnetic field induces (=creates) a changing electrical current in an electric conductor. A changing current induces a changing magnetic fieldaround the conductor.
