why does an electric room heater has a polished surface?

Electric room heaters are provided with a curved, polished surface behind the rod-likeheating element. This polished surfacereflects back all the heat radiation falling on it, concentrating it in the forward direction, so that we feel the heat even if we stand a few feet away from the heater.
