why does an object float or sink when it is placed on the surface of water ??

because the litter object will only be able to float on water where else the heavier object will sink

but the object which as litter weight at bottom and heavier at the top also can float at water

Objects which are of higher density than water sink in water but the objects which are of lower density float because their weight is counter balanced by the buoyancy force of the water.If weight is more than buoyancy force it cannot support it and vice versa..
