why does an orbiting satellite not fall down? explain it.

The earth constantly tries to pull the satellite down to the earth but the satellite itself is moving very very fast counteracting the gravity. Also satellites are placed in a stable orbit where there is a very less chance of falling towards earth or drifting towards space
