pressure decreases with increasing altitude. The pressure at any level in the atmosphere may be interpreted as the total weight of the air above a unit area at any elevation. At higher elevations, there are fewer air molecules above a given surface than a similar surface at lower levels.

Atmospheric pressure decreases with increasing altitude because both the height of the air segment and the density of the air decline with altitude.

  • As we climb in height, the density of airdrops and the air becomes rarer, causing the atmospheric pressure to change.
  • There are fewer air molecules above a given surface at higher elevations than at lower heights.
  • The air above it has less mass, and gravity isn't powerful enough to drag a larger number of particles down. As a result, the balancing pressure drops.

Therefore, as we increase in height, air pressure decreases.
