Ques) Why does Bangabandhu say that the 23 years of our history with pakistan in a history of repression and bloodshed?

Ans) Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was the leader of the Awami League, the largest political party in East Pakistan, and the main voice of the Bengali people’s demand for autonomy and democracy. In his historic speech on 7 March 1971, he recounted the history of repression and bloodshed that East Pakistanis faced under the West Pakistani regime since 1947.

He mentioned several incidents of political and economic discrimination, such as the imposition of Urdu as the state language, the denial of provincial autonomy, the martial law regimes, the exploitation of natural resources, the suppression of civil rights, and the delay and manipulation of the 1970 election results.

He also referred to the recent killings of peaceful protesters by the Pakistan Army in Dhaka and other cities. He declared that the people of East Pakistan had nothing to do with West Pakistan anymore and that they would fight for their freedom and independence.

He urged his fellow Bengalis to prepare for a war of liberation and to resist any oppression by any means necessary. He ended his speech with the famous slogan “Joy Bangla” (Victory to Bengal).

His speech is considered one of the most influential and inspiring speeches in history, as it mobilized millions of people to join the Bangladesh Liberation War that started on 26 March 1971. It is also recognized as a masterpiece of rhetoric and a symbol of Bengali nationalism and identity. It was added to the UNESCO Memory of the World Register in 2017 as a documentary heritage
