Why does battleships became useless during ww2?​

Battleships were armored like a bank vault, but that type of armor is really not a match for modern missiles either. Combat ability didn't kill battleships, economics did. Main WW2 America built over 100 aircraft carriers including dozens of fleet carriers. They were only able to build less than a dozen battleships.
