Concept:

Bepin Choudhury’s Lapse of Memory:

Memory centers on a man named Bepin Choudhury. He is the story's protagonist and believes himself to be ill. When he meets people, they tell him stories about events that he cannot recall at all. Bepin is very perplexed by this because he thinks that one memory is missing. He can clearly recall everything except what the other gentlemen persuaded him of. So, he finds it compelling enough that he has experienced a memory loss. Bepin is advised to go to Ranchi by the doctor. He believes that going back there might remind him of things he believes he has forgotten. Even though Bepin travels there, he is unable to recall anything. He now begins to worry and makes a later appointment with the doctor. Bepin discovers the truth before the doctor gets there. The entire narrative chronicles the events and his quest for the truth. But in the end, we learn that it was all fiction. Out of vengeance, his old pal pulled a practical trick on him. Bepin failed to assist his friend in need, thus the friend took care of everything. Bepin was always OK; it was all a set up from the beginning.

Bepin Babu felt too ashamed to be honest with Dr. Chanda.
