I can't answer the second part of your question (the 19 century part) but I can answer the first part.

The BLM (black lives matter) movement is taking place as people were being discriminated just because of the colour of their skin was not fair. The people with fair skin (white people if you will) thought they were superior just because of their skin colour. The BLM movement wants to prove that all people are the same and their skin colour doesn't matter... what matters is what's on the inside and not the outside.

Please keep in mind that not all 'white people' are like this... there are people who believe in equality and accept people for who they are.

This answer is just my perspective and I could be completely wrong as I live in India where everyone is accepted...
