Moist alum is a coagulating agent. When ever it is rubbed on the site of wound it causes coagulation of the blood that stops bleeding and protects the body from further excessive loss of blood which could be deadly. Actually the ions in it neutralize the protein colloids in the blood preventing bleeding.
