We know that blue vitriol is CuSO4 and has water of crystallisation. When it is heated, then the water of crystallisation is evaporated and thus the blue colour also disappears because water of crystallisation provides it the colour and structure it has.
When iron nail is immersed in aqueous solution of copper sulphate, iron displaces copper from copper sulfate and thus displacement reaction takes place. The reaction is as follows :-
Fe (s) + CuSO4 (aq) ---> FeSO4 (aq) + Cu
