•The reaction of calcium in water is not violent.

•Calcium starts floating because hydrogen gas is formed during the reaction and that get struck to the metal so it floats.

Thanks!! ☺

WHY DOES CALCIUM FLOAT ON WATER ::

✴The calcium on reacting with water gives calcium hydroxide and hydrogen.

➡Ca + 2 H2O ______ Ca(OH)2 + H2

✴In the above reaction H2 is released.

✴we know that calcium do not react violently with water.

✴So the heat released. is not sufficient to catch fire.

✴Hydrogen released during the reaction get stick to the surface of the metal.

✴As the hydrogen molecules exerts upward pressure it floats on water.

✴This is the reason for flotation of calcium in water.
