why does carbon form compound mainly by covalent bounding ​

Explanation:

This is because carbon has 4 electron in its outermost shell. Neither it can loose 4 electron nor gain because gain and loose of 4 electron require loads of energy which it doesn't have so prefer making covalent bonds I. e sharing of electrons
