Why does carbon show catenation property?

Because it has 4 valence electrons so it shares

It is a tetravalent element.. having valency of 4.. so when two carbon atoms get together they share moreover use each others electrons completing 8 electrons in their outermost shell, becoming stable... therefore they show catenation property
