Chennai receive more rainfall in winter due to retrieval of monsaan winds(north-east trade winds) from Indian subcontinent. it receives moisture from bay of Bengal and chennai lies in the windward side of eastern ghats though experience winter rainfall from mid October. And during Southwest monsoon Chennai lies in the leeward side of eastern ghat so less rainfall compared to winters.
