Hey mate ,
When copper is exposed to oxygen ( in air ) it gest oxidised and undergoes corrosion .
Corrosion of copper is called patina
That green layer is basically Copper Oxide
Formula ;
2 Cu + O2 = Cu20
(copper) + (oxygen ) = ( copper oxide )
(brown) (green)
