Why does delhi have very hot summer and very cold winter while kolkata has moderate temperature throughout the year.

Delhi lies in the Gangetic fertile plains between the Aravallis and the Himalayas and is situated 225 m above sea level. The capital experiences an extreme continental climate due to the fact that it is far away from the sea.
Mumbai is located close to the sea which causes Mumbai to be more humid than Delhi. Coastal cities generally have moderate weathers due to the sea which causes heat absorption. Delhi is located at the center of India. The high humidity of Mumbai causes temperature that is generally hotter than expected above 26- 28 degrees Celsius. The temperature in Mumbai is almost constant all year long even in Winters.
The temperature of Delhi is sub tropical whereas the temperature of Mumbai is tropical. Due to this, the climate of Delhi is varied whereas that of Mumbai is constant. If you come from Delhi to Mumbai in Winter, you would feel a drastic difference in temperature as the temperatures in Delhi are colder about 4 -6 degree Celsius.
Delhi has long summers and extreme winters which makes it extremely cold compared to Mumbai which is located close to the ocean and has high humidity.
