This is to do with intermolecular forces and covalent radii of atoms. As you go along each period of the periodic table, the atomic number increases. This means that there are more protons in the nucleus of the atom. This increases the nuclear charge of each atom, drawing in the electrons closer, decreasing covalent radius and therefore increasing density.

Also, the particles in the nucleus are the heaviest in the atom. The more particles in the nucleus there are, the heavier the element will be (greater density).

DENSITY IS THE AMOUNT OF MATTER PRESENT INSIDE A SUBSTANCE
IT VARIES FROM SUBSTANCE TO SUBSTANCE BECAUSE DIFFERENT OBJECTS CONTAINS DIFFERENT AMOUNT OF SUBSTANCE.

FOR EXAMPLE,
IRON CONTAINS IRON PARTICLES WHICH IS HEAVY AND MORE DENSER WHEREAS WATER CONTAINS WATER MOLECULES

DENSITY ALSO DEPENDS UPON THE MASS AND VOLUME OF A SUBSTANCE.
