Why does diamonds sparkle?

supersonu: Here's the actual answer:-
Januscts: When light ray falls into the diamond it gets trapped so it multiplies the rate of reflection as it has 3d network

Heyaa folk,

In fact, actually, diamonds do not shine they only reflect light rays through themselves.

Diamond's cuts are shaped. So when, the rays fall on diamonds, they get reflected many times. From one to the another cut.

So, the light gets reflected and released around diamond in many directions. Hence, diamond do not sparkle, it reflects.

Hope it helps u :)

The sparkling isn't just the high refractive index - the shape matters too. Diamonds are cut so that a light ray falling on the diamond is reflected multiple times inside the diamond and therefore sends light out in all directions. Actually, diamonds don't shine, they reflect.
