Why does dilute sodium carbonate solution fizz (effervesce) when added ethanol+ethanoic acid is added to it ?

when ethanol and ethanoic acid react it produces ethyl acetate.we need to add catalyst as sulfuric acid.
sodium carbonate solution is added to neutralise the excess acid produced.
fizz means excess acid react with sodium carbonate to produce co2.
