electron effinity is increases with a increase in atomic size.

As size of flourine is smaller when compared to chlorine

Chlorine has higher electron affinity

Because cholrine has an extra shell and atomic radius increase down the group.

Answer: Due to very small size of fluorine atom. There are strong inter electronic repulsions in the relatively compact 2p orbital of fluorine thus incoming electon does not feel much attraction.
