Why does epidermal tissue have no inter cellular space?

The epidermal tissue does not have intercellular spaces that help to protect it from loss of water and invasions by bacteria.


It has a purpose of providing barrier between inside of the body and outside environment.


This must have space in between and literally carry out intercellular spaces.
