Equivalent conductance increases with dilution, because it is the product of specific conductivity and the volume V, containing one molecule of electrolyte. Although, specific conductivity decreases with the dilution, this decrease is compensated by the increasing value of the volume.

Because the ions can move freely in diluted solution.

Explanation:

Equivalent conductance is defined as the conductance of all the ions produced by ionization of 1 g equivalent of an electrolyte when present in V mL of solution.

[tex]\mu=\frac{\kappa\times 1000}{C}

where,[/tex]

where,

[\mu = equivalent conductance

\kappa =Specific conductance

C = concentration of the solution in gm equivalents per litre

Thus when volume is increased , the concentration decreases and the Equivalent conductance increases due to free movement of the ions.
