why does Fireman hold the hosepipe tightly​

the fireman directs the powerful stream of water towards fire to put it off.water comes out at a very high speed in the forward direction it applies equal force on the hosepipe in backward direction which tense the pipe to move backwards.hence, a fireman to hold the house pipe tightly to prevent it from moving backwards
