Since friction is a resistive force which slows down the moving object hence, it can cause serious damage as well. For example in case of machinery it can cause serious damage in variety of ways. Thus in machinery the force of friction acts then this can produce heat and this can cause fire or it can burn the machinery. And then moving parts wear off rapidly due to friction. hope it helps.
