Glass tumbler gets affected when ice is placed in it because glass is a poor conductor of heat. When ice is placed in it, inner surface of glass shrinks while the outer surface remains same with respect to environment temperature. due to pressure of two surfaces (inner and outer) with each other the glass tumbler affected.
