Why does graphite which is a form of carbon conduct electricity?

In a graphite each carbon atom is bonded to two three other carbon atoms in the same plane giving a hexagonal structure, these hexagonal layers are bonded through weak bonds therefore by applying external force these layers can be compressed. When electricity is given free electrons are obtained due to the breaking of bonds btw hexagonal layers therefore graphite is a good conductor of electricity
