Handpicking of cotton is a time-consuming process. To get fine, long strands of cotton, it is first picked from the bottom of the stem and then after a month or more, the top which has matured by then is harvested.
The cotton picker machine was invented to cut short this harvest time. It automates the process of cotton harvesting and reduces harvesting time, but quality of cotton is affected.
