the acidic behaviour of acid is due to presence of h2 ions and its shows in water bacause its dissociates its ions in its water solutionthe acid will not show its acidicbehaviour in the absence of water this is because the h2 ion doesnt relaese out in gases

That's not write I know the answer-because dry HCL does not contain any hydrogen ions in it so,it does not show acidic behaviour. In fact, fry HCL gas does not change the colour of dry litmus paper as it does not have hydrogen ions in it.
