Answer: Nice question bro, HCl resist taking one more H because H(Hydrogen) has only one valence electron in its valency and Cl is a halogen(halogen have 1 valence electron in its outter most shell) so when they combine and form H₁Cl₁.

They did not form H₂Cl due to lack of electrons in hydrogen and chlorine.
