why does he kept on the wall of the dam is broad at its base

because as depth increases the liquid pressure increases so if the dam is narrow there is every chances that it might blast or get destroyed so to prevent that bases of dam is broad. hope it helped

Hey there !

The wall of a dam is made thicker at the bottom because of water's pressure. The thickness of the wall increases from top to bottom. The reason is that the pressure exerted by a liquid increases with its depth. Thus as depth increases, more and more pressure is exerted by water on walls of the dam. A thicker wall is required to withstand a greater pressure, therefore, the wall of the dam is made with thickness increasing towards the base.
