Hot air rises because when you heat air (or any other gas for that matter), it expands. When the airexpands, it becomes less dense than the air around it. The less dense hot airthen floats in the more dense cold airmuch like wood floats on water because wood is less dense than water

Heated air expands and becomes much lighter so it goes up.

Explanation:

It is stated that the warm air rises up and the colder air comes down. this happens because the warmer air becomes light and it is the property of the light air to go up.

Whereas, the cold air goes down because it is heavy. The warm air jiggles and expands.

It floats as the wood float on the water surface. So, the warm air is up and the cold air is low.
