Heating a solid for example ice means transferring heat onto that object.When a material is made up of water,water starts evaporating and turns into liquid.But is not possible with all of the materials because they are not made up of water for example wood.Wood turns into ashes when it's given heat

on heating a solid changes into liquid because when heat is supplied to solid the particles of solid breaks their inter particle forces of attraction and start moving. It makes gap between particles and it converts into liquid
